A short plane trip from Sydney to Hamilton Island, where when you land, it's nice and warm instantly. The vibe is welcoming. The people are lovely, and the airport is Island-like. To get out of the airport, you catch a form of transport. I think the bus takes you to Hamilton centre, and then you can get a boat, or buggy to your stay. I went with my family, and stayed on Airlie Beach. It is a lovely island, with lots to do, it is more like a city. There are nice restaurants, pubs, and the Menus had a lot of variety, and the choices were usually easy to pick what to eat! Such as, mini duck pancakes and prawn cutlets, at the semi-private pub down the stairs from our room. We stayed at "Freedom Shores Hotel", a casual, "good for its money", and have your own privacy hotel! It has a pool, greenery, and a casual and pretty foyer and Entrance! Where its nice to dress summery, and take lots of photos! The hotel adds a lot of flavour to the trip, of course because it's where you reside!
I wore a Hawaiian style shirt with plain black shorts, singlets, and summer dresses. As well as, a bikini! Don't forget a bikini (or two)! During the days, we caught a taxi to the main port, and most transport to other Islands is via big boats.
I highly recommended scuba-diving in the Great Barrier Reef. It was my first time scuba diving, it's a little bit tough at first, because of the heavy air tank on your back, and the catch 22 to the breathing under water mechanism. After a metre in, and the practise instructions, you get the hang of it. I held the instructors hand, and I saw some amazing and incredible things! The fish swim in schools, they are bright, beautiful and clever fish! The swim is awesome, like sightseeing in the deep blue sea! The fish come to you, or if you scare them, swim away, or swim with you! It's like nothing I've seen, it will leave a lasting impression and you'll be raving about it for days!!
I also recommend visiting the White Haven Beach, via a day tour. With the beautiful white sand, and the crystal clear water. It's iconic, and you can see why people rave about it! It has a real Australian vibe, and I sipped on a Queensland beer. Ah how refreshing!
Last but not least, visiting Day Dream Island, was fun! We bought some souvenirs, and sat by the pool, sipping cocktails and having lunch!
Overall, the Whitsundays is a lovely, fancy and SUMMER destination, that will charm and leave you wanting more! It was first time there, and won't be my last!
