First, buy a journal you think is suitable. My most successful journals, are plain on the outside. Is that the same for you? What was your most successful journal? Are you just starting to journal? Or need a change?
One of my unsuccessful journals looked like this:

I bought it because I thought "SMART" meant my journal would sound smart, and I would write a lot of wonderful things and it would open my mind... and well, it didn't! The 'Smart' cover, was just a cover, and not a good luck charm!
From the whole journal, most of the pages were as witty and beautiful as the page below. It is not one of my finest and proudest journals.

Some people like to journal about their feelings, and write about their day, or something on their mind. Which is also a good option. Journalling is good for your mental health!
I like to write words that inspire and empower me. Such as, "Byron Bay" (a place I went and loved), "Cool Music" (about the way I feel and hear music), & "New Outfit" - because I love wearing new outfits and shopping.. and just fashion in general! So yes, there is a lot about fashion, music, and travel in my journal. My advice, write about things you enjoy and practise regularly, such as a boyfriend, a pet, a friend, money, work, and more! Specifically, write words, themes, feelings or "things" that are stand out to you, and what you would like to attract more of!

Below are inspirational quotes, with statement words, such as "blessed" and "gold". And of course, "manicure"!

The word fashion, cut out of a magazine.
I glue in clothing labels, because I wonder what to do with them... where else but put them in a journal! The purpose is for decoration, and recording a fond memory.

"Another day another dollar" was the caption on my Instagram story, that inspired, and went really well, so I put it in the journal.
Looking back at journals, the date and year is important. Writing in point form, sentences, drawing/doodling, and even typing with pictures and designing your written work is fun and golden!
I journal especially, when I have something exciting to look forward to, or something coming up in the near future, such as a wedding, or a holiday.
When and how often do you journal? It can be everyday, even if you write "It rained today, and indoors is so in right now!" or once weekly, on a Sunday when it's your day off, or in your study/work break. When I think of my happy memories, I write down some points.
I write about foods, and places I would like to eat - restaurants, or other. I wrote about influencers that inspired me. I traced the body language of Beyonce. I record gratitude, diet, "to-do" elements, and even my uni notes are in there. During the summer, I emphasise "beach", "summer" and "sun".
A colourful journal will brighten your day!
