Values, values, values, what are they, why are they important, and what to do with the meaning of having values.
As an aspiring coach, one thing we learn about is uncovering our client’s values. It is usually a worksheet in the first session. However, I am defining them and giving some hints and additional information here today!
For some it’s easy to identify our values than it is for others. Because our values change over time and in different phases of our development. For me, my values were crowded by my family values, and it was difficult to find what I truly practise and align with every day.
Especially with all the words that sound good to me on a values list. I end up circling them all! I found all the values listed in books and online a part of me, and familiar. However, that’s not what values are for. We as people, align with a set of values, not the whole list! With some talk therapy with my own experts, and some coaching study, I’ve come to a shortened list and live authentically to my current values, which means I act in accordance and display my values in all that I do. Through dressing, studying, and helping others, I align with my values daily.
I have been given many value sheets in my lifetime and found myself not understanding the concept well enough. Our values are taken into consideration when coaching, and it is a crucial part, as well as beliefs, of who we are and how we behave. Once we align with our values, we can better communicate with others.
So, what are my values, and what values would I recommend for my audience to look over, and see if we are acting on OUR values, or the values of others, family, or society.
